Dr. Sheldon Russell, Professor Emeritus, is the author of four novels: Dreams to Dust:  A Tale of the Oklahoma Land Rush, Requiem at Dawn, The Savage Trail, and Empire.

Dreams to Dust has been designated as an Official Centennial Project by the Oklahoma Centennial Commission.  Requiem at Dawn was Finalist for Best Original Paperback in the 2001 Western Writers of America, Inc., Spur Awards Competition. Dreams to Dust has won the Langum Prize for excellence in American Historical Fiction also Winner of the Oklahoma Book Award for 2006.

Growing up on a cattle ranch in the Gloss Mountains of Oklahoma has given Russell insight into the power of place.  His was a story-telling culture, a culture of humor and of hard times.  A passion for narrative and for history was inevitable.

Russell resides in historic Guthrie, Oklahoma, where he and his wife, Nancy, a sculptor, own and operate the Double Starr Studio and Gallery.
